Regular vacuuming will keep dirt from getting into your rug pile, extend the life of your rug, and keep the air in your home healthier. 

 

It is recommended, that you get your rugs cleaned professionally once a year to avoid the accumulation of dust and other allergens.

 

Spills

Spills are unavoidable, but when they do happen, the best thing is to clean them up right away by blotting most of the liquid with a clean white towel or paper towel. It's important not to rub the surface of the rug, as it can send the spilled liquids further into the pile. 

 

Make a mix of dish soap a bit of white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle, if you don't have a spray bottle in a bowl, and use this mixture to blot the stain. Follow up with clean water and a new towel to get the soapy water out. Keep blotting the surface to get as much water out as possible.

 

Our are rugs are made of New Zealand wool, which contains lanolin. Wool naturally repels water and dirt, making it more stain resistant than other fibres.

What kind of custom rugs can I get?
You can commission us to create a design for you that matches your decor, or you can bring your own design.You can get a custom rug made from your child's drawing. The possibilities are endless! You can have hand-tufted, hand-knotted qualities made with 100% New Zealand wool. 
Here is how it works:
-Take a picture of the space where you'd like to have your custom rug.
-Collect wallpaper or fabric swatches, and colour chips for the colours you'd like to have in the rug.
-Describe us what style and general imagery you're looking for.
-We'll prepare a drawing for you based on your ideas.
-Once we have the design, you can choose your colours from 600 wool swatches or the Pantone Home and Fashion paper swatches. If you live in Toronto you can select the colours for your rug in person. If you live outside of the city, you can send any colour samples in the mail. They will be returned if requested.
-We prepare an effect drawing showing how the rug will look in the designated space.
-We order the rug, and we wait for a couple of months. When it's ready, it will be delivered to your door.
-If you have a design in mind, send us the drawing and we'll make sure we'll stay as true to the original artwork as possible when redrawing the picture for production.

We ship our custom rugs from India by couriers. Shipping by couriers takes about a week. After receiving the rug we inspect it for damage before we ship it to you. Shipping is included in the price of your rug.

 

If you live in Toronto and have a suitable vehicle, you can also pick up your rug. By appointment only. 

Each rug is made to order to insure that the design and colour are according to your specifications. 

 

These beautiful rugs are made in India, and it takes up to 2-3 months to complete the work. The wool used for rugs goes through a lot of transformation before you unroll it in your home. It is carded and spun, coloured to your specifications, dried in the sunlight and made into balls.

 

The design is mapped out on a paper that is to scale with the colours specified on the design, and transferred onto canvas . Once the colour map is completed the tufting or knotting process can begin. When the tufting or knotting is completed, your rug goes under several washes with water and chemicals, carving if requested, and an inspection.

The easiest way to tell a hand-knotted rug from a hand-tufted rug is to turn it around and check the reverse side of it. If you see a cotton backing, that is a tufted rug. If you see the design and the individual knots on the reverse side of the rug, it's a hand-knotted rug. Hand-knotted rugs are flexible and feel much denser and heavier than hand-tufted rugs. You can fold them any way you like without damaging them, but a hand-tufted rug is stiff and can only be rolled, or the backing will wrinkle. There is a big difference between the life expentancy of the two rugs. While hand-tufted rugs will last for about 10 years, hand-knotted rugs are heirloom quality.

 

Hand-Tufted Rug Construction

Hand-Tufted rugs are made up of different parts. The design is drawn onto a canvas and the weaver inserts individual strands of wool into the canvas with a tufting gun. Once the design is completed the canvas with the wool is secured to a cotton backing with latex. 

 

Hand-Knotted Rug Construction

Hand-knotting a rug is accomplished by skilled artisan weavers. There are many types of knots in rug making, depending on the traditions of the country they come from. Our hand-knotted are rugs are constructed using Tibetan weave. The weaver places a metal rod in front of the warp (vertical) strands on the loom and wraps the wool yarn around two of the warp strands and the rod. When the row is complete the wool is cut. When you look at Tibetan rugs you can see the straight lines in the construction which were created by using the rod in the weaving process.

Wool rugs, especially hand-tufted rugs will shed for the first few weeks of use. Regular vacuuming should control the fluff.

It's recommended to have one to avoid injuries, especially, if your rug moves on the floor. 

Our rugs are hand-made, and can have small imperfections, like slight variations in colour or design. This doesn't mean your rug is defective. These variations add to your rug's beauty and charachter. 

This rug can be purchased in additional sizes. The available sizes might not be the same for all rugs, it depends on how the design fits different dimensions.
